Lilian Broca working on "Esther's Banquet" in her mosaic studio
Lilian Broca - Lilian is an established visual artist who returned to mosaics recently to express her Queen Esther series in a form true to the period and her own vision. Lilian is drawn to the "bright seductive qualities of Venetian glass", and uses a combination of 24kt gold mosaic, smalti and vitreous tiles. Lilian has been presented with several awards, including the Lorenzo il Magnifico Gold Medal for her mosaic diptych "Queen Esther's Banquet" in the mixed media category at the 2003 Florence Biennale International Exhibition.
In today's "Art World" mosaics are rarely acknowledged as "fine art" although it is undeniably one of the oldest art forms. This was a major achievement for mosaicists worldwide!
Lilian's Solo Exhibition "The Queen Esther Series - The Hidden and The Revealed" will be at the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery in Toronto until November 7th, 2006.
The entire "Queen Esther Series" has been presold and is no doubt Canada's largest mosaic art sale to a private collector. Congratulations Lilian!!!! If you are in the area don't miss this exhibition, it may be the first and last time the whole series is shown publicly.
Lilian lives in Vancouver, BC Canada.
